"Autumn Stripe" Reimagined Vintage Kimono - Kimono Zulu Artist Collaboration with Judy Masliyah

"I have always been fascinated with different cultures and with history. I love to mix up elements from various eras and places. I was inspired by 1920’s fashion, especially cocoon coats for this piece. A lot of the fashion during that period was influenced by Eastern art and kimonos. I loved the idea of starting with this iconic, traditional hand-sewn piece, looking at how it was interpreted a hundred years ago, and then creating something contemporary from all of those components. This kimono has a draped front, pleated balloon sleeves, beaded fringe trim and a belt. The centerpiece is a belt buckle I made from a deteriorating Victorian embellishment." --Judy Masliyah
